Q1. What finishes and techniques are popular so far in 2018?
A1. Currently at Sturdy Print & Design Limited we are seeing an increase in demand for labels with a tactile or braille finish. Another technique we have seen a surge in growth is soft touch lamination. These are great because they ensure the finished labels have a unique depth and texture finish.
Specifically, this is good for industries such as the wine and supplement industries. Our clients value a more visually appealing label that enhances their branding.
We also supply chemical companies with tactile warning triangle labels, this helps them ensure they comply with EN ISO 11683. These tactile labels are key to ensure visually impaired persons can identify hazardous chemicals.
Q2. How are your processes different from other label printers?
A2. Here at Sturdy Print & Design Limited we pride ourselves on ensuring our clients get the same high-quality service, time and time again, with no surprises. After all, our motto is ‘Deliver on time and get it right first time, every time’. This has been woven into the company ethos and everyone from the MD down work together to ensure we consistently deliver on our promises.
The key to producing high-quality labels, time and time again is down to us continually striving for perfection in all that we do. It helps that we have established procedures in place that ensure our staff perform quality checks throughout the whole printing process. These checks ensured we achieved an AA grade on our last BRC packaging audit and we also successfully transitioned to ISO 9001:2015.
Q3. Why is it important for your business to be involved in working on the development of new products/technologies?
A3. We recognise that there is a demand for ever-increasing technological advances. In order for us to be one of the leading label printers in the UK, we have to keep our finger on the pulse of new developments in technology and the print industry.
Sturdy Print has invested heavily in several new pieces of machinery in the last 12 months, one of which is Edale’s FL-3 AiiR. This comes equipped with an AVT inspection system that ensures we can offer the best service, consistent quality and increase production capacity with shortened turnaround times.
The FL-3 design has a modular construction which allows additional print units to be easily installed. We recently installed a Stork screen print unit which enables us to meet particular demands for braille and decorative finishes.
We love to wow our customers with our latest enhancements. After all, we want to them to have the best products on the market in order to win more new business.
